Portal novels. So that's what they're called.

Jan, have you heard any word about them being more widely accepted/tolerated now?

I'm bummed. My MG action-adventure is a portal novel.

I haven't heard any anti-portal talk lately, but I don't know that I've seen many recent portal novels either. So...I dunno. There are actually so very many things I do not know.

I'm reading the 100 CUPBOARDS trilogy, by N.D. Wilson (recommended by Cat). They are portal books, published by Random House... starting in 2007, though, I see, so maybe they got picked up before the glut of portal books. Or maybe they're just different enough, and good enough--like yours will be, Shauna!  Kiss

Perhaps.
But your lack of knowledge pales in comparison to my Abyss of Inexperience.

Thanks, Jan.

Actually I thought of one ELSEWHERE that was a portal novel where kids enter through a painting. And I just read one (from my ARC pile) where kids enter through little doors (the little doors under the eaves of a house)...but I can't remember the name of that last one. I really didn't care for the last one, the alternate world was a little too weird which is probably why I'm blocking on the name. Anyway...clearly they are being bought...not in mass quantities but still.

I feel like a worn out pirate...there's buried treasure all over this site.
Jan, your original post from May was overlooked by me, and it is so rich a stash.
I love the hops, and will always think of plot in hops now.

Jan, is your portal novel entitled "Wellspring of Magic"? Cause I've read that one and thought it was good. Smiley
