Does anyone know of any Canadian conferences/workshops for writing?  Preferably in Ontario.

Thanks

I just joined the Quebec Writer's Assoc. and they have workshops in Montreal. I'm sure there's an Ontario Writer's Assoc. or some such equivalent, probably in Toronto as most of the publishers are there. Good luck!

You may also want to look into CANSCAIP, the Canadian Society of Children's Authors. Illustrators and Performers:

CANSCAIP holds a big conference in Toronto every November as well as regular meetings and events.

There are regional chapters, too. Our Quebec chapter, know as Yes Oui CANSCAIP  (Cute name, eh?   Grin )  held its first conference last May. It was a huge success and this year's conference will take place on May 28th, in Montreal.

There's something called Blue Metropolis Foundation here in Montreal. They are putting on a writing workshop this weekend. I'm going to one with Anne Fine, who wrote "Madame Doubtfire". I had to mail in a sample of my writing before I was accepted, so either I'm not too too bad, or they're really desperate for particpants! Either way, it'll be my first writers' workshop and I'm looking forward to it!

So the workshop was great, very relaxed (we were only about 8 people). We shared some of our writing and commented on it, and actually Anne Fine read a couple of chapters from my YA novel and said I'd done a great job making the voices of my two MCs completely different. That was nice to hear!

Congratulations!  That must have been a great feeling having your story read (even a few chapters! WOW!) and appreciated.  I would really love to find a workshop closer to home, but I may just have to accept it if there aren't any.
