My assign5 external took place at a southern plantation--an8y old girl wanders about observing various things and drawing in her secret notebook/internal is a cross country trip from florida to new mexico, where she pricks her finger on a cactus, witnesses damage from hurricane katrina, and complains about her dads driving through the edge of a tropical storm on a highway sided by gator infested swamps/ideas: something having to do with crochet, the secret notebook, and a family friend is teaching her how to crochet, but shes keeping it a secret from her sister/or I once hydroplained bad and hit various trees--thats the setting, but what's the conflict? Am lost/how does she grow from that? Can i include the dad--i clearly need to think harder/i have a.d.d.--comprehension, concentration problem, but thats off topic, but could always put that in the story

If you want conflict and growth, you have to have plot. Plot happens when you take a main character and drop a challenge on her...something important, something she can't NOT react to and try to overcome. Then the story tracks that action to overcome. And in the process of facing and struggling with challenge, your character grows because that's how it happens in real life...as we deal with challenges, we grow and we change.

If you just have stuff happening, you have setting and action but not plot. And without plot, conflict isn't really meaningful and believable growth cannot happen.
