I  have an interview/profile subject for Pre-teen to teenage girls but I'm not sure where to begin. I would like to get a couple articles out of this same source but again I don't know where to start. I feel my prospective interviewee would be a great inspiration for girls and young women (though I'm also planning an interview for the adult audience). I'm not sure where to begin so I was hoping some of my creative friends here could help me brainstorm...I been away from writing for awhile now.

My interviewee is a 33 year old mother of four who has just enlisted in the United States Army for the first time. Her children range from 15 to 7 yrs old. With her chosen directive within the military she has already been separated from her children and husband for 5months for training alone and she still has 2 1/2 months to go. The military does have an age limit and she is not far from it. She had to get a few medical wavers due to some medical issues from her past but she was determined to join. For those that know a bit about the military she has joined as a 68W which is a Combat Medic but she is also set to become an LPN. She graduated Basic Combat Training at the top of her female class. In her Medic class she is in the top 5%.

Now I'm thinking this could be worked into a career profile for YA girls looking at joining the Army as well as the adult interview regarding what drives a 33 year old mother of four to join the Army. So anyone got any other ideas? Questions you'd like to know if you where to read an interview by this woman?

Help Please!

Wow, that is very interesting.  Good luck with it!  My only questions seem like the obvious ones.  How did her husband and children react to this decision?  Why IS she doing it?  For your YA piece, how are her teen children dealing with it?  I had no idea that the military had age limits.  For the adult piece, you might go into that.  I would be interested specifically what medical wavers she needed.  What kind of medical issues can keep you out of the military?

Hope that helps, even if it's just a bit! Smiley

I would be interested to know why she made this decision at this stage of her career/life. I have a co-worker in his 40's who joined the military recently. We had an interesting discussion about why now.

It does help alot! Thank you both for your time, Katie and Beth!

Hmm, maybe if I do the YA piece as a profile instead of a regular interview with Q & A I could interview a couple of her children and add in their individual perspectives.
