Does requesting an extension in the Writing for Children's and Teenagers course prevent you from being eligible for the Advanced Novel Course? My instructor mentioned that she would be recommending me for the Advanced course in an earlier letter, but I am now thinking about asking for an extension (probably 3-4 weeks) because my workload is very hectic with graduate school right now. I am currently on my final assignment (10B). I want to give my all on this final assignment of course, which is why I want the extension, but I don't want to request an extension if it will stop me from moving on to the advanced course.

No, it doesn't, Emily... 'cause I had two extensions during the basic course, one longer than the one you're considering, and it wasn't a problem. I'm now taking the novel course, and they send me letters about the advanced magazine course as well.

Recommendation for the advanced courses are based on (1) how well you progressed in the early course -- meaning did you grow as a writer and (2) how well you seem to understand and respond to distance learning -- manual and letters. Speed of moving through the course is not something we consider.
