Okay, I'm stumped. I have no idea who to try to write for in my market. I have used the MMFC highlighted, dog-eared, and sticky noted everything that might be a possible market. As I now am going back through it I find that what I really want to write isn't who I have tagged in the book. Now I see this as a challenge to write for those markets because they don't fit me. Is it okay to go outside of the Magazine markets for childrens writer 2010 and use Novel& short story writers market 2009 for submit on assignment 8 or do we have to stick to the MMFC?

No idea what to do for this assignment.

Thank you

A little confused here... are you saying that what you really want to write, for the three outlines/proposals you need to turn in for Assignment 8, would be aimed at adult markets rather than for children's markets?

If you feel you want to do an outline that's for adults, then yes, you'd do well to go to a guide with more adult markets -- but be aware that your instructor might not know the adult markets as well as the children's markets. I know I'm out of touch with a lot of adult markets.

I like writing for the tweens/teens but most of what I want to write isn't needed or accepted in the mags we have in our market. Thank you for your answers.
Going back to the think tank.

Although very new magazines might not be listed in the market guide you have, pretty much all children's magazines listed in ANY market are going to be listed in the one that came with the course.
