I used the bus station picture and wrote a paranormal story for teens. Actually, as my instructor pointed out, what I wrote was more like a chapter of a story. I had bitten off much more plot than I could handle in that word count, but I learned from it. Plus, I have a chapter of a novel that is much better for her comments and corrections.

What did you choose?

I chose the kid-and-barn picture, and wrote a story about how they'd lost the farm and had to say goodbye to the animals that'd been sold... the conflict involved a misunderstanding about the girl sneaking a kitten to their new house. I liked it, but I never sold it... say, I should try Pockets, now that they've reduced their word count. Hmm.

Not bad. Like I said I'm still at the beginning. I have until August 23 to get in into Sheila Foard. I just need some time to read it over first before I decide to write it.

I think I'm going picture the two teenagers at the bus stop and write about them skipping school to go see the Maury show; only to get caught by their school principal.

I'll keep you guys posted.

I've decided not to write the story about the two kids who skip school and go see the Maury Povich show. I dont' want to get into any legal hot water over this.

You really didn't have much chance of getting in legal hot water with the idea you had. And the main thing Assignment 1 is for is to show your instructor the way you write and the kind of story you like doing. So you should go with whatever idea you can get excited about. You can't get sued for an assignment.

I chose the kids at the bus stop.  They were in love, going to get married and raise horses.  He had to stay at home and go to the local college, but she got a scholarship to a university in painting.  She hadn't told him, and he was angry and hurt because he thought she just wanted to go to a big school to meet more boys.  She told him about the scholarship, said she wanted to paint the horses he bred on THEIR ranch, that she still loved him, and that she would be home on weekends and holidays to help plan their wedding and their ranch.  when she got on the bus, he left with a big smile on his face.

Wow, that was 3 years ago...near to 4.  Maybe I should get that story out, polish  it up some and see if I can find a home for it.

OK guys: I'll let you  know what my Assignment 1 story is. It's going to be about two teenage girls who run away from a very strict Catholic school in the mountains about hundred miles north of Los Angeles. They get off the bus to go see a new rock band at a nightclub on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Both of them have fake ID's. But then one of the nuns catches them waiting in line to get into the nightclub. The story is set in the spring of 1966.

I have to really work this story, so I'll keep you posted as to what's going on.

I chose the bears? Originally I chose the bus stop picture and had my story pretty well done but I wasn't super confident about it. When I did the take five exercise, I chose the bear picture (which was my least favourite) but that story turned out better than I had hoped, so that is the one I sent.

Assignment 1 is on its way back to me. It was about these two teenage girls who run away from a very strict Catholic girls boarding school to the bright lights of Hollywood. With fake ID's in their hands, they stand in line outside of this nightclub on Sunset Boulevard to get in to see this new rock band; only to get caught by one of the nuns from the school. The nun then throws water on them to "cleanse them from their sins" . She recommends that the Mother Superior kick them both out, and she drives them back to the school.

I chose the farm picture. I wrote about how there was a big storm brewing and while they were dealing with this they were dealing with life. They had a cat that was having a difficult labor. So while securing themselves for the storm the main topic was the birth of the kittens. The storm was basically in the background.

My instructor really liked the story. However, she did suggest I write it in 1st person. Also I had managed to change my main characters. I have not done anything with it but plan to in the next week or so.
