When I was very young, my little Mama told us stories that she made up.  They were wonderful, magical stories of places that incorporated so many of the things we loved; food, ships, travel, friends.  You name it and she could make a story from it.  That was my first realization that I wanted to write stories.
When did you know that you wanted to write and what was your inspiration?

I've always liked telling stories for as long as I can remember. That was always fun. My inspiration was the girl who voiced Violet on the Incredibles. I think that her name's Sarah Vowell. I watched her and was inspired to start writing. That was when I was about ten. My first draft was a pirate story and didn't come until four-years-later. When I was fourteen-years-old. After that, when I learned that I was better at writing fiction than I was factual content, my dream took root in my heart and has been growing stronger and stronger for the past two years. I have written four story drafts and am working on two more.

Good for you, Louisa.  Keep it up.  I don't know of anything that is a satisfying as writing.  Happiness comes in many forms and writing is one of mine and it sounds like its one of yours, as well.  Keep working at it.   Wink

As a child I've always loved the make believe, and thought it could be possible. I look back now and realize that was part of my inspiration in becoming a writer. I find much inspiration in my younger cousins, they're loads of fun, and plenty of stories are ready to be birthed through observing them. I guess the desire to write has always been there, it just needed time to grow with me and become a reality! It's a dream of a lifetime!

Children are my inspiration! I want to be someone to a child, to help them become all that they can be, and be an inspiration to them. I am fulfilling my dream in becoming a children's author. I'm on the ride of my life and I am enjoying every step of the way!

I think that writing is something so satisfying because we are creating dreams at the same time that we are fulfilling our own.  Any thoughts?

Yaya & all,

My adventure started when I was a little girl. My mom and I lived with her parents. My papa would let me sneak into his and grandma's bedroom and sleep with them. ***hahaha*** He would tell me stories every night I was in there. I learned about familiar friends like some careless bears who forgot to lock their doors. Or one about a boy would had a wild time farming some beans. Or another one of a girl who had a thing for wolves.
Sound familiar??? Then he told me about some frogs and another one of some lightening bugs. Those were his own stories. And they are the ones I hold dearest to my heart.
I stopped writing/telling stories for a while. You know how being a teenager is!!! Then I got married and had children. It was by telling them the same stories I heard that my love of storytelling and writing begun again. And yes, they love the originals too.
The first two stories I ever wrote professionally were inspired from the ones of my papa's.
No, they haven't been published. But I still having them and work on them from time to time.

Tracey,

I can totally relate to that.  My mama and my gramma' use to tell us stories that they made up and some of those stories have surfaced in books over the years.  When I was very small, I wanted to write them all down so none would be forgotten.  Those are the stories we hold close to our hearts and return to for reinforcement in our own writing.  I imagine that's the way you feel.  It is the way I feel.  I love that you can describe your memories in such a way as to bring tears to my eyes and return me to my own recollections of love and family.  Thank you for that.
