For assignment 7A (the NF piece), it seems that more research is encouraged. I do have one idea for basketball how-tos based on my own experiences. Another idea I have is for a topic other than basketball, but it would be info. obtained mainly through an interview. Does anyone know if either of these ideas would be acceptable?

Thanks so much!

Hi Writermutt. Yes, topics on sports is a great idea! Many children (especially boys) love to read about sports.

Hi writermutt! (cute name!) Your ideas sound great and I know that first-hand interviews go over very well as sources with editors, so that is definitely a plus.  Good luck~

Your instructor won't fret about AMOUNT of research as long as it is sufficient to cover the topic. In a how-to (for example) there usually isn't a source list at all -- so no research is needed. In a profile, the interview really is the only source most of the time. So just make sure your amount of sources fit the type of article. In a straight informational (not profile), you usually need at least three sources to make the sale...so do keep that in mind if you're thinking you want to sell the piece to someone.
