Didn't J.K. Rowling write several of her Harry Potter books before the first one made it to print? - the editor was on Oprah (i think it was Oprah) and they talked about how HP was rejected MANY times. That particular editor liked the book though, and had J.K.Rowling revise it and add more about the character Neville.

Not sure though how many she wrote before the first was in print.

I read in a couple of articles that she had notes, plots, and scenes from the other six books as it was her vision for it to be a seven book series while she was working on book one. Not sure if she planned out all seven books and then wrote book one? But she has said that she suffered writer's block with book two because book one was getting press and she became afraid that the second book wouldn't measure up to the first book.

I take that to mean that she "wrote" the second book after the first book was released.

Right, she planned the "arc" of the series and took notes but wrote them one at a time after Harry was published.

I definitely don't think she actually wrote them before the first was published because I know that she intended to call book two "The Half-blood Prince," using the name to refer to Lord Voldemort. But if you read the series (if you didn't and intend to in the future, stop reading this!) you know that the half-blood prince is actually Snape in book six.

Hi  I've just turned in assignment 1.  This is a really big challenge for me.  I'll take it a day at a time.  With the professional advise from my instructor, and trusting God to help me, I'm sure everything will be alright.  I believe everything will be alright for each of you.  We'll get through this novel together.  Remember we've got to believe we can do this.

Good plan, Spiritwalker. As writers, we're supposed to try to write something each day (not that I do, but I try!) Sometimes, though, I have to wait for inspiration to strike . . . Undecided

Ranger at Heart

I've been giving this some thought and am actually trying it out on a couple of chapters. I am revising my novel (assuming it doesn't win the Delacorte contest, in which case I guess I won't do this) to a duo point of view. It is currently written in the main female character's point of view, but the main male character is also very strong, so I'm going to try out writing some chapters from his point of view. That way, it'll be a little different from most of the teen novels out there. Then maybe I'll do the novel course again using this new concept of duo points of view. What do you all think?

I think you should go for it Donna. I'm all for jumping into new ideas, you never know what could come of it. And your story could take on a new direction.  Smiley

I'm currently reading a series of books by John Flanagan. He writes for YA, and they are books about a young ranger (human). He writes in dual POV of view with many characters. It really adds to the story, knowing what they are all thinking and feeling. He doesn't over do it though. You should check him out. He's coming out with book #7 this year. I just finished reading #6. Check them out at the library, that's what i did. Here is a link to the series:
