Is anyone doing PiboldMo? There are others that are using this opportunity to motivate themselves to pick up the pace on their writing. YA and MG writers do their version while PiBoldMo lets picture book writers do their own version. I decided that I am going to participate. The idea orginated with Tara Lazar issuing an invitation for all to come up with one new pb idea per day for the entire month of November. Check out her blog for details at http://taralazar.wordpress.com.

My version of PiBoldMo submissons are being posted on my blog every day. Story Starter up on blog for Day 8. PiboldMo. Writer's tip. http://peg366.wordpress.com.

Too much to do on NaNo at the moment, so I won't be doing it. Smiley

Chippy,

I only do pbs basically, though I have done nonfiction for the 10-12 year in SFC. Thus, writing a novel was not for me. When I read about Tara Lazar's PiBoIDMo, it was perfect for me. Now at the end of the month, I'll have 30 more ideas to pursue. I may not pursue them all but they are there if I do want to. It also encourages me to write daily. Once I get myself in motion, I am inclined to keep on writing. lol.

How is your NaNoWrMo going? someday, I might try it. I ahve the greatest respect for those who participate in it.

Hi Peg,
Thanks for this information. This is fantastically interesting. Did you do NaPiBoWriWe last spring?

Lynn,

Is that the one with Paula? Do you do the one last year? I didn't last year but plan on doing it this May. I figure anything that motivates me to write is a good thing. PiBoIdMo is perfect for me.

I'm actually taking some time this next month off from 2 of the 3 critique groups I am in to work more on my own stuff.

I had issues with chronic pain today... plus a dead modem (changed 3 times by the repair man)  so haven't blogged but am getting to it now. Have both yesterday's and today's ideas on paper . . . just not on the blog.

Hi Peg,
Yes, NaPiBoWriWee is the one with Paula Yoo. I did do it and enjoyed it very much. It ended way too quickly. That's why I think I'd have loved to know about the challenge of PiBoIdMo earlier. But, I think if I do 3 ideas for the next 10 days that should count. Don't you think?

I love you're story ideas. I like how you added the pictures. It's pretty neat. Good luck with everything.

Lynn.

Thanks for the kind words on my blog. I'm enjoying doing it. Be sure to come back again. I'm always adding new stuff.

I definitely want to participate in the May event with Paula Yoo. Maybe we will both do it. Did you end up with some usable pbs from the challenge?

I think doing 3 ideas in 10 days is great. You'd have to check with Tara about entering the challenge though. @http://taralazar.wordpress.com Good ;uck with your ideas.

I'm pretty sure I will generate several pbs from the PiBoIdMo challenge. Tara Lazar has organized this event well with several guests on her blog as well as the opportunity to have a drawing where 3 lucky writers/illustrators will have a chance to have their ideas looked at 3 agents, one of which is Elana Roth. It's not a critique per sec but rather a look at where an idea appears to them to be one that is unique. To me anyone with that level of experience would offer some great insight to the marketable of my work.

My younger sister, Alice Smith, is the graphic artist. I bought all the graphics from her this last year or so. I thought I might as well use them.

I thought I'd post this exchange of dialogue, someone already had asked the question. Just in case anyone else is interested. Yaya and I are encouraging one another in this fun endeavor.

Hi, Tara.

Great blog! Deb Lund recommended your blog on her blog so I’m a little late in arriving. Can I still join in the PiBoIdMo or is it too late? I’ve been doing NaNoWriMo but more just to keep my writing thing a daily habit. I’ve been using it to write (a very rough draft) of a story a day. I’m a little behind on that goal but your blog has injected me with newfound enthusiasm.

Thanks,
Debbie

Welcome Debbie! You can jump in at any date. At the end of the month, if you’ve collected 30 ideas (that’s the goal), can you take the PiBoIdMo pledge and qualify for one of the three grand prizes, an agent review. There’s still 12 days left in the month, you can do 2 ideas a day to catch up!

I have my 30 ideas plus lots more. I have enjoyed this so much.

How about Yaya and zebrakitchen, did you have fun, too?

Hi Peg,
I'm doing very good, thanks. I was keeping contact with Joany up until Thanksgiving. I know she is knee deep in doing puzzles, and I've been knee deep in turkey and visiting family.
I am up to 30 idea. Some are more sketchy than the others but they are idea's none the less.
I do have a question for you, on your blog you have this posted after your story ideas. Please explain this to me.

*Disclaimer: Stories based on the exact set of words, names and attached graphics are already in the works.

Thanks,
Lynn

Peg, I have a few questions for you. I'm assuming you'll stop by before tomorrow. Yaya and I are wondering how this is going to work? Now that we have our 30 ideas, what do we do with them? So we sign up somewhere or is that information going to be divulged tomorrow?
Thanks,
Lynn~~

I am so sorry I didn't get back with you. If you haven't already done so contact Tara Lazar about what to do. The pledge is on her site as this was her idea. Do the first thing on December 3, 2009.

This is from Tara Lazar's site.

OK, time’s up! Do you have 30 new picture book ideas? You do? Excellent! Time to take the PiBoIdMo pledge to qualify for one of our keeno-Yaccarino prizes. (Sorry, there are no Dan Yaccarino books to give away. I just like that phrase.)

I do solemnly swear that I have faithfully executed
the PiBoIdMo challenge, and will to the best of my ability,
parlay my ideas into picture books from the list of 30 I have created.

Now I’m not saying all 30 ideas have to be good. Some may just be titles, some may be character quirks. Some may be problems and some may create problems when you sit down to write. Some may be high-concept and some barely a concept. But…they’re yours, all yours. Small seeds that may sprout into a story.

You have until December 3rd at 11:59:59PM EST to sign the pledge. Remember, this is an honor system pledge. Those who sign will be entered into the random grand prize drawing: review of your best 5 ideas by a literary agent. There are three grand prizes! Thanks to Jill Corcoran of Herman Agency, Inc., Lauren E. MacLeod of Strothman Agency, and Elana Roth of Caren Johnson Literary Agency for volunteering their time and expertise to PiBoIdMo.
