This is for Jan, when she has time to answer. ( Although other input is more than welcome.)

Are you allowed to take one of the advanced courses twice?  As you know, I'm waiting on the return of my final assignment for the novel course.  There are a couple of things I'm not happy with...have discussed them with my instructor, and not really been satisfied with the reply...he was happy with what I had done, even though I wasn't.

I've been thinking about the possibility of retaking the course, with a different instructor, and a different novel.  But I don't know if that is allowed or not...I understand that all the instructors are busy with students and their own writing, and the Institute probably wants to keep openings for first-time advanced students.

Of course, my husband would probably send me out to the barn to live if I took another course...oh, wait, we don't have a barn any more...well, he's extremely supportive, but even his patience has a limit ! Grin

Just thought I would ask.  I'm not sure where to go or what to do about the part of the present novel I'm not satisfied with...I've rewritten it so much that I can't even think of how to make it "right" in my own mind...my critique group likes it, my instructor likes it, but it bugs me.  :Smiley

By the way...Jan...do you teach the advanced course??  Smiley Smiley Smiley

I don't know for sure, but I would be DEEPLY surprised if you weren't allowed to take it again. I expect it depends on the instructor load.

Dear Mikki S, you know, I took the beginner's, advance and book course.  I have only pushed one story, but feel that I still am not doing my best work.  Of course, life intervened and I have not not submitted much.  I was very dissatisfied with the book course and felt that I didn't get good critiquing, but I let it go.  If you want to take a course over again, and they allow it, go for it.  It may be the best thing you have every done.    BTW, I may rent a bed in your barn, if you have one, LOL.  Good luck, JuneRose

Hi Mikki,

You are allowed to take the advanced course over again. If you give student services a call, you can speak to a counselor about instructor's that are available that would be helpful and have experience with the particular genre of novel you would like to write.
