I am looking for an old book that is out of print. It was the only published book by the author. The library doesn't have it, amazon might have a copy, but no reply so far. Outside of digging through old book stores (who has the time) anyone have a suggestion where I might find a copy?

Have you tried ebay?  You would be surprised what old books you can find there.  Or maybe you can find it here:

Does your library participate in a state-wide loan system? Ours does; you can get a book sent from any one of the member libraries, which include university libraries. Might be worth asking your local librarian, if you haven't yet checked that out.

I don't know where she lives, but I know in NV it's only a request from other branches in the same system.  There are 4 different systems I am aware of in NV, Las Vegas being the biggest, but I the colleges are not counted in any of them that I am aware of.

Oh, bummer. We have what you have--the ability to request books (interlibrary loan) from any branch of the county library system--but then we also have "Prospector," which is "a partnership of 23 academic, public and special libraries in Colorado and Wyoming, offering free access to more than 16 million books, CDs, DVDs, videotapes and other materials." It's very cool. I hope Round has access to something like that; I wish you did!

Round -

You haven't said what book you're looking for or who wrote it. I'm not sure it matters. Just curious.

If you can't get it thru interlibrary loan, go to the univ. library near you and try them. They have even more resources than public ones sometimes. If you can't get one there, contact The Library of Congress. See if they can help you or the New York City Library (the largest in the country next to the Library of Congress with over a million volumes - and counting - to its name.

If you still come up dry, go online and find a rare book site and see if they'll do a search for free. Many will.

Hope this helps.

Sorry as it stands now I didn't get a reply from Amazon but my library found me one in another system apparantly it is the only copy in the USA system so I might have trouble getting it but they don't think it will be a problem. We'll see in two weeks the book is about Argentina mostly but has some important background on Cricket (the game) that I am most interested in. I have a non fiction in the works about Argentina but something a little off the wall.

Round -

So glad you finally found a possibility. It's always disheartening to look for some so specific and not be able to get your hands on it. Been there and couldn't get the book because the library that had it wouldn't release it for loan.

What the library might do, though, is photocopy the chapter/article within the book and send you that for a fee if they don't want to risk shipping it.  Just a thought. Univ. libaries do that all the time.

Hope it works out. I'd like to read you pc when you done. I seldom get to read things about other countries.
