Does anyone know a good site with full color photos where I can review tropical fish?
I am writing about a reef.
I'd like to be more descriptive and name some of the reef inhabitants.
The reef is man made and in a 60 foot tank so I can't look up a specific location. Like tropical fish in Fiji.
I have already contacted the corperation that owns the tank, but they have yet to respond.

I do however have some photos of the reef.
I thought I may be able to do this by comparing my photos and the ones on the site...
Once I have a name to research the rest should fall into place.

I don't know of a site, but I have an alternate suggestion: since you have photos of the fish you want to identify, you might try going to Google images and searching for each fish by its description as you see it in the photos.

For instance, googling reef fish yellow black stripes gets you this:

and this:

and dozens of others. If you find one that matches your source photo, then you can click through to the site to find out its name. That's how I would do it, anyhow, but then I love Google images.  Grin

Pick your fish...find it's name...

Can you find the humuhumunukunukuapua'a or the lauwiliwilinukunuku'oi'oi?

Do you want tropical or marine fish? Maybe search on marine fish and see if you get what you're looking for.

Thanks for the chart and the suggestions I've already found a yellow yeaded jaw fish, a blue tang and a mandarian gobie.
Doing the same thing with marine fish, corals, sting rays and sharks should get me exactly what I need.

Nope. I see some Angel fish and some kissing fish . . . did I mention that all the fish I've ever had died unexpected, rapid deaths? One even committed suicide by jumping out of its bowl. By the time I found it, it looked like one of those dried fish you can buy in a box for your cat. Guess I'm not a fish person! Tongue

The lauwiliwilinukunuku'oi'oi is the yellow one in the middle top left. It has a long face and is facing right. Its under the stripey fish that's under the Tropical fish sign.

Third from the left on the bottom row? I haven't seen pictures of any with that "bubbly" look, though, so I could be wrong.
